i was introduced to Mastodon during the Dethalbum II tour with High on Fire, Converge, Mastodon, Dethklok, and the Mastodon part they played through this album from beginning to end, so I have a strong bias towards this album as far as their whole catalog goes.
It takes a few more listens to get into this album than the previous albums, but it is definitely worth the effort. If you have the CD with DVD making of doc, you'll know that the band heard a sort of classic rock, 70s, Yes, Prog, Ozzy vibe to this one and followed their muse in that direction. Furthermore, standard single-disc LP and limited-edition 2xLP were released. All tracks are written by Mastodon, except "Crack the Skye" (additional lyrics by Scott Kelly). A "super-deluxe" CD/DVD version that includes a tunnel book and a lithograph of the album art sold out during pre-orders, and a "Royal Edition" with a CD of the instrumental versions of the songs and an entirely new black-and-gold artwork was released on December 15, 2009. "Crack the Skye has been released as standard CD version and CD/DVD version, which included a bonus DVD with a documentary and a track commentary. Mastodon has taken hold of the leadership of the New Wave of Progressive Heavy Metal. But you don't get tired of the songs because they all contain Powerfull instrumentation and good vocals and a solid rhythm section that underpins the structure of the songs and holds the songs together . Even though the vocals worked well there just wasn't enough variety too them. Unfortunately, Crack the Sky remained a regional phenomenon, especially in the Baltimore area.
No problems with the disc but was dissapointed it only came with a plastic cover not a proper album sleeve. The album debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200, selling 41,000 copies in its first week. Recorded at 60 Pyscho Hum Studios Medford, OR. The first album is raw in your face metal, interesting but not for the squeemish.

Mastedom are one of those bands of whom l was late getting into l hard them on jools holland show way back in 2012 l thought they where good but did not buy there stuff at the time because there where so many other bands that I was listening to at the time and you can't buy everything you like But l never forget about them and know finally l have gotten around to buying there stuff and boy has it been worth the wait This cd is a powerfull beast brimming with well constructed guitar driven songs that are well played and presented.

The band were massively hyped and I couldn't see what they had ahead of other bands. The band's 2006 major-label debut Blood Mountain spun off a Grammy nomination and earned Top 5 Best Album Of The Year nods from Kerrang!, Revolver and Metal Hammer, and a Top 10 Rolling Stone.
